The "YM showcase and Flexibility in the Irish Energy System" event took place on Monday 21st October hosted by Engineers Ireland and sponsored by UCD Energy Institute. Feedback from the audience was great, with everyone finding all sessions very informative and enthralling.
The morning session showcased some really interesting research from Cigre Young Members, with 10 presentations covering a range of topics. Congrats to the two YM showcase winners Conor Mulholland and Damien Doheny! Special thanks to our judges Marie Hayden, Alireza Soroudi, Robert Donaghy and Karl O'Keeffe
The afternoon session featured a fascinating talk from Marie Hayden from SmartWires outlining the significant changes in the electricity system during her career to date, and a note of optimism about how much more can be done. This led on to an insightful panel discussion on the role of Flexibility in the Irish Energy System, with participation from Padraig Lyons (ESB Networks), Muiris Flynn (Glen Dimplex), Niall Durham (EnelX) and Diarmaid Gillespie (EirGrid) and chaired by Lisa Ryan.
This event would not have been so successful without the great work and commitment of ESIPP PhD students Valentin Rigoni (Cigre NGN) and Anjukan Kathirgamanathan (UCD ASHRAE Student Chapter)
