ESIPP academic Dr. Donal Finn hosted an ASHRAE Ireland workshop in Engineers Ireland, Dublin on Monday 11th March. The event "High Performance Building Design - what does the future hold? An outlook towards 2030 for Ireland, Europe and the USA" featured the ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer Tom Lawrence, as well as speakers from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and the Department of Communications Climate Action and the Environment (DCCAE), among others.
Desta Fitiwi will present the Electricity Network and Generation INvEstment (ENGINE) model that has been under development in the ESRI. The model can be used to answer different policy-related questions pertaining to the least-cost development of power systems in the island of Ireland and beyond. The presentation will also include insights from case studies on the whole island such as the best locations and quantities of electricity generation and transmission infrastructure under different policy scenarios (e.g. high datacentre rollout, north-south interconnector, high RES diversification, centralized vs decentralized RES development, storage, etc.).
Date: Thursday, 14 March
Time: 4PM - 5:30PM
Location: ESRI, Whitaker Square, Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin 2
"The State of Play in Electric Vehicle Charging Services: Global Trends with Insight for Ireland", a recent report by Sarah La Monaca and Lisa Ryan, is now available below.
Electrification of vehicle fleets, particularly in countries with increasing shares of renewable electricity supply, represents an important pathway toward low-carbon mobility. This report examines the role of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure as a key enabler for EV uptake, and explores business models and policy approaches for promoting deployment. It then applies observed key principles to assess the Irish EV charging services market and identifies key recommendations for Irish policy.
The ESIPP Symposium “Unlocking the Potential of Energy Users in the Energy Transition” took place on Thursday 25th October in Astra Hall in UCD. The event was attended by academics, industry representative and political stakeholders both national and international. Many thanks to all those who attended and helped make it successful event. The presentations are now available here.
