Congratulations to Junru Chen (one of our first PhD graduates) who received the 2019 Chinese Outstanding Overseas Student Award. This is a Chinese national award which is awarded to only 500 people all over the world from a variety of majors. It is expected that the award ceremony will take place following the Covid19 pandemic.
Junru has been offered an associate professor role from Xinjiang University, one of the top universities in China, which he will take up once international travel resumes.

Researchers at the UCD Energy Institute, including Lisa Ryan of ESIPP, have investigated the implications of the dramatic fall in economic output associated with the COVID-19 crisis for EU 2030 emissions reduction targets. This analysis indicates that since existing policy measures could now achieve the 40% emissions reduction target sooner than 2030, there is now an opportunity to increase our ambition in support of the emissions reduction targets of 50-55% in 2030 outlined in the European Green Deal.

The ESIPP team is delighted with the news that Professor Frank McDermott has today been admitted to the Royal Irish Academy.
Dr. Lisa Ryan was featured in Silicon Republic on Friday 17th April outlining the importance of energy economics in setting Ireland's energy policy.
