EU Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Petten, Netherlands have recently developed, and released for public use, a simulated wind energy production dataset for the last 30 years for the whole of Europe based on 2015 installed capacity. Lucy is using this dataset to build an Irish case study of long-term patterns of concurrent wind generation and demand, to understand the effect of particular kinds of weather on the electricity system in its current configuration.
Lisa Ryan gave a ted-style talk titled "Transition to a sustainable energy community" on September 30th on the main stage at an event hosted by the IRC on European researchers night in Trinity College Dublin. The talk was on an IRC enterprise project that Lisa and her colleague Orla Nic Suibhne are working on in partnership with SEAI called "The Energy Transition in a Rural Area: Becoming a Sustainable Energy".
