Dr Recep Kaan Dereli
Postdoc Researcher

Recep Kaan Dereli holds a joint doctoral degree in Environmental/Sanitary Engineering from both Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands) and Istanbul Technical University (Turkey). His doctoral dissertation focuses on the treatment of industrial wastewaters by Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactors (AnMBRs). His research project was conducted in collaboration with Veolia Water Technologies (France)-Biothane Systems International (the Netherlands). In his MSc thesis, he studied mathematical modeling of activated sludge processes and anaerobic solid waste digesters. He has been employed as a teaching and research assistant in Istanbul Technical University since 2006. He has taken role in several research and consultancy projects and assisted several courses in bachelor and graduate level. He has authored 18 papers in reputable peer reviewed journals.

Kaan joined the University College Dublin in October 2017 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Energy Systems Integration Partnership Program (ESIPP) project. His research interests include wastewater treatment by aerobic and anaerobic biological processes, mathematical modeling of biological treatment processes, biological treatment of organic fraction of solid wastes, nutrient removal, membrane bioreactors and energy efficiency in wastewater treatment plants.
