Dr Desta Fitiwi
Senior Energy Systems Researcher

Desta Z. Fitiwi holds an Erasmus Mundus joint doctoral degree in Sustainable Energy Technologies and Strategies (SETS), a program jointly offered by Comillas Pontifical University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Delft University of Technology). His doctoral thesis focuses on the development of strategies, methods and tools for solving long-term expansion planning problems of electrical transmission networks of a continental scale under high penetration of renewables. He also received MSC degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Petronas and BSc degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Addis Ababa University.

Desta joined the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) in June 2017 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Energy Systems Integration Partnership Program (ESIPP) project. So far, he authored and co-authored more than 31 scientific papers. His research interests include mathematical modelling and optimizations, energy systems expansion planning, regulation and economics of the energy industry, sustainable development and integration of energy systems, distributed energy resources integration, smart grids and flexibility options, demand side management.

More recently Destas has moved to UCD and is working as a Senior Energy Systems Researcher.
